The 2026 Mazda CX-70 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus SUV

You Are What You Drive - A Bottom Line Review
By Tony Leopardo - The Car Guy © AutoWire.Net

What is a CX-70? The CX-70 is a midsize SUV built in the Hofo, Japan, assembly plant, and sold in North America by Mazda. The CX-70 is a 5 passenger version of the larger 3 row Mazda CX-90. It shares the same platform, dimensions, and powertrains as its larger sibling, but prioritizes extra cargo space and second row legroom over a third row.

For the 2026 model year Mazda has added more standard luxury features to lower trims and significantly reduced the price of the plug-in hybrid PHEV variants. The CX-70 is built on a rear wheel drive RWD based platform, with standard all wheel drive AWD installed across all models, and you can choose from 3 main powertrain setups.

3.3L Turbo Inline 6 is standard: Produces 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque on regular gas.
3L Turbo S Inline 6 High Output: Tuned for 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque on premium gas.
Plug-in Hybrid PHEV: Pairs a 2.5L liter 4 cylinder gas engine with an electric motor for 323 HP combined, and the all electric EV driving range has been increased to 32 miles.

Some of the new features for the 2026 model CX-70 models are:
Enhanced Standard Gear: The base Preferred trim now includes standard ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.
Towing Capability: When properly equipped, it can tow up to 5,000 lbs on the Inline-6 models. A new towing mode is now standard on Premium and higher trims to assist with trailer safety and stability.
Cargo Space: The CX-70 offers 39.6 cubic feet of space behind the second row, which expands to 75.3 cubic feet with the back seats folded flat, and has one of the largest sized cargo area's in its class.
Tech & Interior: A 12.3" inch center stack digital display screen is now standard for 2026, and it features faster processing, and has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Premium trims offer Nappa leather seating in unique colors like Red or Tan with cross stitch contrast quilting.

The base starting prices for the 2026 models are as follows:
3.3 Turbo Preferred: Starts at $42,250.
3.3 Turbo S Premium: Starts at $53,240.
3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus: Starts at $56,670.
PHEV SC Plug-in Hybrid: Starts at approximately $44,250, representing a significant price drop of over $10,000 compared to the 2025 CX-70 PHEV launch models.

To showcase this updated 2026 model, this week Mazda sent me a CX-70 3.3 Turbo S model to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this Premium Plus edition is $56,670. The options on the SUV are: The cargo organizer for $100, the illuminated door sills for $390, the special paint for $595, the Mazda logo welcome light package for $175, and the retractable cargo cover for $215. The manufacturer's suggested retail price, MSRP, including the $1,530 delivery charge is: $59,675.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the out the door and in your garage total purchase price came to $67,134. At just 134 bucks over $67 Grand you get a premium plus turbo midsize SUV, that gets 23 MPG city, 28 MPG highway, and gets a respectable all around 25 MPG in combined everyday driving.

The 2026 Mazda CX-70 is a specialized 2 row midsize SUV blending luxury level styling, a high output 340 hp inline 6 cylinder turbo gas engine, and a spacious, tech forward cabin designed for 2, rather than 3, rows of seats. It stands out for its premium performance, with a 5,000 lb towing capacity, and sophisticated, driver focused dynamic, effectively serving as a more agile, 5 passenger version of the Mazda CX-90.

What sets the Mazda CX-70 apart from the competition with the 5 passenger layout.
Performance & Efficiency: Features a 3.3L inline 6 cylinder turbo engine with Hybrid Boost, delivering up to 340 hp, along with a PHEV option offering 32 miles of electric motor driving range.
Distinctive Styling: Features an aggressive, sporty aesthetic look with blacked out accents on the front grille, the side mirrors, and the 21" inch spoke alloy wheels.
Interior & Utility: Offers a luxurious, 2 row, 5 passenger configuration with premium materials, including available red Nappa leather, with unique and functional storage solutions like a sub-trunk and remote folding rear seats.
Advanced Technology: Features a 12.3" inch display with standard Alexa Built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12.3" inch digital instrument cluster on higher trims.
Driver Centric Dynamics: Includes standard i-Activ All Wheel Drive, Kinematic Posture Control for better handling, and a 5,000-lb towing capacity.
Spacious 2 Row Layout: Unlike smaller 2 row SUVs, the CX-70 utilizes the larger, wider platform of the 3 row CX-90, providing exceptional cargo space and rear seat legroom.
Premium Focus: The CX-70 is targeted toward active individuals who want a premium performance based SUV, without the need for a third row of seats, with more cargo room for their personal gear, boogie boards, and weekend camping supplies.

So, if your looking for a great midsize 2 row SUV, then call, click or visit your local Mazda dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on the new 2026 CX-70 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus SUV. And remember that the base price for a new CX-70 starts at only $42,250. Mazda - Move and Be Moved.
