HALF MOON BAY, CALIFORNIA Championship NASCAR, NHRA and CART Series race cars, a spectacular display of military aircraft, a regionally-sanctioned Tractor/Truck Pulling competition, and the worlds largest and most whimsical showcase of 2,000 driving, flying, and working machines highlight the Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show, Sunday, April 30, 2000 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Half Moon Bay Airport. This giant tenth annual show, which benefits the Coastside Adult Day Health Center, celebrates one hundred years of mechanical ingenuity, power, and style with a remarkable exhibit of whirring, hissing, and roaring machines, running the gamut from classic cars, U.S. Army tanks and antique motorcycles, to restored military aircraft, model-T fire engines, massive steam tractors, and tons more. Among the exciting new attractions is the Ford Racing Tour, offering 3600 square feet of motor sports excitement with Dale Jarrettís NASCAR Winston Cup Series Winning Ford Taurus, Michael Amorettis CART Series Ford-Cosworth, John Forces NHRA Drag Racing Series Mustang Funny Car, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series F-150 Truck appearing at the show. The Ford Racing Tour exhibit also gives fans the chance to explore and experience technology displays, interactive racing games, exciting racing videos, photo opportunities and Ford Racing merchandise. Automobile enthusiasts will get a rare up-close look at motor vehicles from every era in the 20th century. Antique, vintage and classic cars will represent the early days with horseless carriages and Ford Model Ts, among others, alongside the more fanciful touring and luxury cars like the Bentley, Packard, and Rolls Royce. Flash and speed will be represented by an array of fabulous sports cars like the T-Bird, Jaguar, Cobra, Triumph, and Model-A Speedsters. A strong field of Street Rods will showcase their custom detail work, while muscle cars like the Cuda, Mustang, GTO, and Camaro will flaunt their machismo and power. And an awesome collection of Racecars will be displayed with a bone-chilling assortment of dragsters, funny cars, gassers, and jet cars firing-up throughout the day. There will be no racing. Giving a whole new twist to the phrase "flights of fancy" will be dozens of aviation wonders, ranging from stylish homebuilts to classics from the 40's and 50's to restored warbirds including a special display of U.S., British, Czech and Russian World War II fighters. If the exhibits give you a yearning to taste the wild blue yonder, satisfy your longing with a thrilling ride in a helicopter, bi-plane or DC-3, a stalwart of American Military action since World War II. For history buffs, there will be a replica World War I Vickers "Vimy," rebuilt from original blueprints by two Bay Area residents. "Its kind of a combination of Beauty and the Beast, all in one plane," says John LaNoue, who helped to recreate the Vimy from the drawing board, along with San Francisco resident Peter McMillen. Production of Vimys began in 1919, and there are only two originals left, both of which are in museums. "Our goal was to build a plane from the blueprints up," explained McMillen, and then retrace the routes of three historic flights that changed the face of aviation." McMillen and LaNoue will be on hand to discuss the Vimy and explain how she was created. The most curious and fascinating displays are the large and small engines collected and refurbished by members of the Early Days Gas Engine & Tractor Association. Their fascinating arrays of flywheel engines are enough to power old-fashioned washing machines, lawn mowers, and an entire Lilliputian factory. On the larger side is the farm and logging equipment. Between those hissing and churning away will be a 12,000-pound Russell steam traction engine used to thresh wheat and grains in Oregon, and a giant 60-horsepower Western engine used in the Coalinga oil fields. Rounding out the show will be the amazing raw power of the Valley Tractor Pullers Association Tractor/Truck Pulling Championship Event, kids amusements, food booths, and the Pacific Coast Blues Harmonica Showcase featuring blues legends Andy Santana, Gary Smith, Mark Hummel and R.J.Mischo. Spectator admission is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 5-14 and 65+, and free for kids age 4 and under. Tickets are available at the gate only. Half Moon Bay Airport is located on Highway 1, about 20 miles south of San Francisco and 5 miles north of Highway 92.
